A United Nations Mine Action Employee has filed a lawsuit against
for negligence after stepping on a landmine resulting in an immediate below the knee amputation in an area previously cleared by and certified clear of landmines by Ronco Consulting.
The United Nations board of inquiry found that Ronco failed to find the mine that injured Mr Fartham as well as three other mines.
The complaint states that Ronco Consulting, acting through it’s agents and/or employee’s, breached it’s professional duty of care to Fantham and did not exercise the reasonable care and skill expected of professional mine clearance companies.

Can anybody help me locate a missing civilian contractor in Afghanistan? He left little information behind. Do not know which contract company he was working for. Last spoke with him on November 7 when he stated he was lost in the mountains, possibly south of Kandahar. He flew from Ramstein AFT to Kabul on Oct. 29. Name: Jean-Christophe (Francois) Hyacinthe. Age 45. He is a US citizen, born in France.

Hello! I also try to locate a close friend working as civilian contractor in Afg. The same I don’t know what company he was working for and last day I spoke with him was 13 november 2011. All I know is that he was suppose to be transffered from the base he was working in to a smallest one, he said maybe the smollest from afg. I am a licensed plumber and am looking for information on how I would be paid if I went there. I have heard rumors that it is tax exempt if I stay for a year. How is food and lodging deducted from pay and how much? I heard I could make upwards of $150,000.00 in a year, does that sound correct?

It may still be possible to make that kind of money, but it is not what it used to be. Most of the work is being done by local contractors under foreign management. As far as being tax free, it is no different than any other expat job, 11 consecutive months and then only for the first 80K or so.
Afghanistan seems to be picking up. I am not sure who is heading up those contracts but was in Kabul for a while myself.
No Guaranteed Tax Free Income for civilian contractors and employees. The IRS is now auditing returns of civilian workers in the middle east. In a recent audit the IRS agent arbitrarily disallowed the foreign earned income exclusion for a U.S. worker who qualified under the physical presence 330/365 day test although he was abroad 2 years. Reason, an IRS memo issued in Feb. 2009 instructs agents to disallow the FEIE for anyone who may possibly have an abode in the U.S. and therefore would not have a tax home abroad (IRC Sec 911(d)(3). Case is now preparing to go to Tax Court. Updates will be reported on the Tax Power website as they become available. If IRS prevails this could spell big trouble for many U.S. expats who for years have been able to claim the FEIE but now are being denied this tax benefit.

Things have changed under the Obama administration, I spent 7 years in Iraq and Afghanistan so I have seen it change. Jobs over there are fewer and the pay is not there like it once was. I have gone back to typical construction contracting in Africa and the money is better as are the conditions.

Hello, If anybody could help me I would be so appreciative. I have just gotten out of the U.S. Army as a carpentry and masonry specialist. I have been home for about two years in the reserves and did four years active duty with 864th eng bn, where I searved two tours in afghanistan. I would love to go back just not in a military uniform. I don’t know how to go about getting a job out there. I would really like to find a recriter, is this possible. Are there recruiters for companies such as kbr and such.

Also, “Fluor” has a big presence now in Afghanistan. Check with them. They’re always hiring. Google it for website.

My husband was a contractor working for Dyncorp International in Kandahar, Afghanistan. In an altercation with another contractor, which turned into a fight, the other guy was stabbed. My husband has been extradited to the USA to stand trial. I have no contact with him due to the fact that Dyncorp did not give him any money to take with him. He had pay due to him, and they could have. I last spoke to him for 5 minutes on 23 December. I realise that the DOD law MEJA has put him in this position, but SURELY I should be able to contact him? I do not have the financial means to fly from South Africa to the USA to see him. Who can assist? Will the US government pay for my ticket?
My husband went to work in Afg as a security contractor and it has become a NIGHTMARE! The company turned out to be a fraud (fake MOI license needed by non-Afghan contractors to work there). This guy turned out to be a fraud in every sense of the word and a gun-runner to boot! My husband hasn’t been paid since Nov 2009! When he reported his boss he was fired.My husband learned all of this and reported him immediately but nothing has happened to this guy! The Fed’s have the case but this guy is still running around that country! Meanwhile, my husband (a former cop with so much experience and qualifications he could do anything) now has no job and no money to provide for his family. We are literally down to the last bit of our savings and can’t find work. Take this as a warning to all those that think it would be great to work overthere…don’t. There’s no regulation and the fraud runs rampant.
I have been trying to jump on a heavy mechanic contract for some time now. My buddy is currently in Iraq on a BAE contract and I am wondering how in the hell I can get on something like this? I have the clean background, a passport and the knowledge, what is the secret? I have had my resume re-vamped quite a few times and I would like to know how guys that only did oil changes at wal-mart are qualified to work on MRAPs? I am looking for advice. I am currently a contractor in Afghanistan, but I am not getting any hazard pay. Everytime that it’s been asked about, it just gets dismissed, and said that we’re not entitled to it. I have read several different federal and DoD regulations that say that I should be getting it. Is there something out there that I may not know of that would prevent my company from paying me hazard pay and getting away with it legally? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Have you found out anything new? When a contract is awarded by the govenment, there is a percentage added on to the base pay for hazard pay and another percentage for isolation allowance. The money does not come out of the employers pocket but is given to the company to distribute to the employee. The government gives100% for hazard and 100% for ISO. The company then determines what they will give to the employee. I do not think it is mandated how much they have to give. Therefore, different companues offer different amounts. I was there for two years from 2008 to 2010 and experienced this.
Stop talking to your manager, obviously he does not know or does not want to discuss it. Call your financial department and HR. You can also contact the department of labor.
The contracting companies make a large portion of their money just by putting a body in country. That person does not have to do anything, the government will pay them.
We have received many reports of companies not paying the employees the danger pay that the government provides. This is illegal.
I am in the same situation. When asked we are told it wasn’t added into the contract. Rumor is the company is pocketing it, but that’s just rumor. Can the company bid the contract to where State Department Rules do not apply?

I was recently a contractor for AECOM for two years. I applied for a lead mechanic postion. Instead of giving me the position they chose to give it to a man with no mechanical experience. I questioned the decision and from that day forward my supervisor was out to get me fired. He even went around telling anyone that would listen that he was going to have me fired because he didn’t like me.What he really meant was he didn’t like my color. Aecom has low production because the have people without the skills or knowledge working in the mechanic shops. They have more Indians than Americans working on the United States military vehicles.
To get a job overseas, it is best to go through the internet looking for them. After you find a company that does that type of work, you will most likely have to make a profile on their website and post your resume. From there, you can monitor their openings. Some of the companies I am familiar with that do this work are
Mantech, CACI, Fluor, AECOM, and Trinetics. There are many more. If you are into electronics, check mantech, caci. and trinetics. AECOM provides people for cooking labour, offices….They are cheap and prefer Indians who will work for a lot less than Americans. If you are a certified welder, air conditioning, or generator person, you have a great chance as they always need those.

Hello, I am trying to find a friend working as a civilian contractor (DOD). I have not heard from him since Aug, 2011, He is suppose to be stationed in Irag and working in Afghanistan. Go to their website, there are a lot of email addresses and some phone numbers. email them, explain the situation and ask for help. Aldso, include your congressmen and senators in the email. Make sure that global security understands you will not stop and they need to help you. It might work.

I am looking for a civilian contractor that just arrived to Afghanistan. She was working for DynCorp, but now is working for a different company. I am pretty sure she went to Bagram, and it is pretty dangerous there. Her name is Gail M. Losee, and she is a logistics. Contact the Regional Support Center at Bagram which is now run by CSC and ManTech. Dyncorp works in their building on Bagram. I worked there for the last two years, that is how I know.
